A MODERN OASIS IN AN URBAN ENVIRONMENT

The client intended to rent out a spacious two-room apartment in the Palais Schellenburg, preferably to a businessman or a couple without children. Aware that in this building we can meet many visually similar residential units with the same purpose, we tried to infuse the interior with originality and uniqueness, taking into account the initial state of the space at the beginning of the design. When designing, we aimed to create an interior that combines modern aesthetics and timeless elegance.

Interior design
The central design idea was to create a maximally open and fluid living space that stretches from the entrance all the way to the terrace. In order to increase the feeling of spaciousness and brightness of the apartment, we removed part of the partition wall with sliding doors that separated the entrance hall from the dining room/living room. We reversed the layout of the living room and dining room, as light around the dining table is crucial, while direct natural light is not necessary for relaxing in front of the TV.

Dining room and office
Since the apartment would potentially be intended for a businessman who occasionally works from home, we designed a large bookcase next to the dining table. The shelf is divided into two parts: one part with glass cabinets and a built-in wine display case aesthetically meets the needs of the living room and dining room, while the other part is adapted to the needs of a small home office. In order to ensure privacy during online conference calls, we designed a wooden paneling on the opposite wall, which visually connects the space from the entrance lobby to the terrace and at the same time hides the sliding door to the kitchen. The user can close them and thus transform the living room into a working environment.

Kitchen and terrace
We upgraded the relatively small kitchen by using stone, open elements and a hanging lighted showcase, which gives it a modern and elegant look. This thoughtful design allows for functionality and easy access to cookware while maintaining aesthetic appeal. The kitchen opens onto the covered outdoor part of the terrace (loggia), where there is an outdoor set with a dining table. The 42 m² terrace optically increases the interior space and adds to the functional and visual value of the apartment. The privacy of the terrace has been enhanced with a varied line of troughs, carefully designed with diverse plantings, creating a lively green garden in the middle of an urban environment. The planting includes plants of different heights and colors, which contributes to the aesthetic appearance and additional privacy. With carefully selected elements of comfortable outdoor furniture and decorative accessories, we have created a real outdoor living space, an ideal venue for socializing, enjoying morning coffee or evening cocktails.

Homeliness and comfort
Since the (interior) design of the Schellenburg building is of a stylish (old) bourgeois nature, we have carefully preserved and upgraded this idea with a modern touch, paying attention to every detail. The common thread of the entire apartment is the variety in texture and structure. Whether it is stone cladding, different types of grooves on the wooden elements of the bathrooms, walnut wardrobes in the bedroom or wall coverings in the living room, the elements complement each other and connect into an elegant whole. The feeling of comfort and homeliness is enhanced by the rattan headboard and the softly upholstered walls in the bedroom. All of the above, together with curtains and photographs by a renowned Slovenian photographer, creates a pleasant and homely atmosphere, despite the prestige of the building.
