The Villa G project represents a comprehensive renovation of an existing building and the broader redesign of the estate, located on a sloped terrain at the edge of a forest above the Ljubljana Marshes. It is a thoughtful transformation of several previously uncoordinated residential units on a family estate into a unified living environment where architecture, landscape, and light subtly intertwine. The new spatial organization transcends the boundaries and logic of the original structures, introducing carefully considered interventions that connect all elements into a coherent whole.
The architectural composition is based on the differentiation of programmatic zones — a longitudinal stone fountain separates private from public areas, acting simultaneously as a retaining wall, soundscape, and soft boundary between the driveway and the inner courtyard. The terraced layout respects the natural topography and connects to existing trees and the forest edge.
The interior spaces open toward the surrounding greenery with varying degrees of transparency and intimacy. The outdoor living area — designed beneath a bioclimatic pergola — mediates between exterior and interior, with glass railings, shading elements, and vegetation allowing for precise modulation of light, views, and protection. The connection between volumes is articulated through a sequence of transitions that preserve a clear architectural structure and maintain uninterrupted visual lines toward nature.
The material palette is restrained yet expressive. Stone plinths and paving in local Hotavlje limestone give weight and authority to the lower levels, while upper cladding in wood-composite panels, combined with golden metal details, establishes a refined, almost textile-like character of the extension. Ventilated façades, pinpoint lighting, and a rich interplay of textures form a backdrop that never dominates the spatial experience.
Particular attention is given to detailing, where technical solutions and aesthetic intent stand side by side. The main entrance door, custom-made with concealed hardware and a perforated infill in anodized gold, becomes more than a functional threshold — it acts as a membrane between exterior and interior, free of aggression or unnecessary display.
The courtyard space formed between the wellness pavilion and the residential volume creates a sheltered retreat shaded by the existing forest. The pavilion, clad in wood and featuring expansive glazing, acts as a withdrawn structure, almost immersed in greenery. A small fountain at the edge, with a discreet stream emerging from a hand-crafted spout, adds a gentle acoustic and material accent.
The landscape design complements the architecture: hydrangeas, maples, grasses, and gravel are arranged to form a soft green buffer, while each part of the estate remains functionally articulated — including features like the sunken garage, which preserves the visual clarity of the courtyard.
Villa G does not seek grand gestures; its essence lies in carefully crafted transitions, subtle spatial layering, and timeless materiality. The result is a calm yet distinctive response to the site's specific conditions and the client's needs.
